Parenting Neurodivergent Children Group

Who:
Parents of neurodivergent children, including but not limited to:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Sensory Processing Disorder

What:
This group will provide parents with:

  • A general introduction to neurodiversity-affirming parenting

  • Information on and basic strategies for sensory processing issues

  • Recommendations for resources and professionals in the community

  • Parenting strategies

  • General support and processing time to connect with other parents

Neurodivergent LEGO Social Group

Who:
Children entering 3rd–6th grade who have been diagnosed with any of the following AND have an interest in LEGOs:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

  • Sensory Processing Disorder

What:
This evidence-based group is designed to help elementary children with social communication and social skills difficulties. During the group children will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn how to collaborate with others

  • Learn how to engage in joint problem-solving

  • Practice with social skills including turn taking and sharing

  • Provide social support to one another

  • Engage with others appropriately around shared interests

Child Anxiety Group

Who:
Elementary school age children who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety.

Does your child struggle with excess worries or fears? Do they have trouble sleeping or complain of stomach aches or headaches? Maybe they struggle with anxiety associated with testing, school, separation, or friends. The child anxiety group provided by Desert Village Counseling Center may be just the thing you are looking for!

What:
This group will utilize the Coping Cat curriculum to help your child learn to:

  • Recognize and understand emotional and physical reactions to anxiety

  • Identify and clarify thoughts and feelings in anxious situations

  • Develop adaptive plans for coping.

Through playful experiences the group helps to provide a sense of camaraderie and will help your child recognize they are not alone in this experience.
